At the center of the room is the pulpit, which focuses on the Word of God. Its pictorial motifs and ornate color scheme can be traced back to Lucas Cranach the Elder. The organ rises impressively above the simple communion table, which forms the altar, and underlines the outstanding importance of church music. Johann Walter composed a seven-part motet for the ceremonial inauguration of the chapel, which paid musical tribute to the occasion. The present organ, built in 1994 by master organ builder Peter Vier, impresses with its mid-range tonality, which makes the music of the Reformation period sound particularly authentic.
In addition to regular church services held by the Protestant congregation on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. at Thanksgiving and Pentecost, the castle chapel offers a varied program of events including church concerts, organ performances, choir performances and early music. Individual organ performances can also be arranged for tour groups by prior arrangement.
The chapel is known as both the “castle chapel” and the “castle church” - both names are common and testify to its historical and spiritual significance.
