Torgau in 24 hours: An exciting day out with the family

Fun & games from the old town to the city park

Our adventure begins in the Market Square, framed by the magnificent Town Hall and charming Renaissance apartment buildings. With a delicious ice cream in hand, we watch the bubbling water of the Market Fountain.

From afar we can see the giant stuffed bear - our next destination! It invites us to discover the oldest toy shop in Germany: the Carl Löbner Toy Shop, founded in 1685.

We take a short break at the Torgau Information Centre. While the little ones play in the lovingly designed children's corner, we can hire buggies or take an audio guide. That way we can learn all about Torgau at our own pace. And mum? In the Torgau Shop she can find regional delicacies and lovely souvenirs.

A highlight is the site of the State Horticultural Show 2022, where there are lots of attractions: exciting playgrounds, a skate park, a petting zoo and plenty of space to run around and be active. We'll mint our own coin as a memento - a great souvenir!

On the trail of the bears

Continue along Schlossstraße, following the bear paws on the pavement. They will lead us straight to the famous brown bears, Bea and Benno, in the bear pit at Hartenfels Castle.

Just a few steps away, we stand in the impressive castle courtyard in front of the Great Wendelstein. Did Sleeping Beauty live here?' we ask ourselves - after all, scenes from the DEFA fairytale film were filmed here. We take our best holiday photo at the Wendelstein.

Museum - but exciting!

Torgau's museums also have a lot to offer children:

  • In the Spalatin House, one of the oldest buildings in Torgau, we can learn about the connection between music and the Reformation on an interactive children's trail.
  • Hartenfels Castle is home to the exciting exhibition 'Standfest.Bibelfest.Trinkfest.'. Here we are immersed in the everyday life of the Elector and his family.
  • In the adventure exhibition 'Wurzeln und Flügel'we can climb on huge pieces of furniture and learn about the important questions of life.

Time to play - first dry, then wet

As we walk along the old city walls, we discover the Planet Playground under the lime trees. A children's paradise with separate areas for the little ones and lots of opportunities to climb, jump and laugh.

In the afternoon, let's go to the Aquavita sports and leisure pool. While mum relaxes with a massage, we plunge into the water fun. Time flies between the sauna, the pool and the outdoor area with its playground.
