The name Torgau went around the world in April 1945
The photo exhibition, featuring approximately 50 large-format, previously little-known historical images, tells the story of the movement of three armies—the US Army, the Wehrmacht, and the Red Army—along the Elbe and Mulde Rivers at the end of the war in 1945. Through its rare images, the photo exhibition documents the route of American military patrols to the Soviets on the east bank of the Elbe. It demonstrates that encounters between Soviet soldiers and Americans were not free from tension and prejudice. Rather, it was the encounters between the "ordinary people" of both armies that revealed the often-described sympathy, trust, and longing for peace.
