Judicial injustice – dictatorship – resistance
The permanent exhibition at the Torgau Memorial Site depicts the history of Torgau's prisons and camps during both German dictatorships in three sections. The moving fates of the prisoners play a special role. Photos, documents, and interview excerpts illustrate the consequences of the political justice system during the dictatorship for individuals. Since 1991, the Torgau Memorial Site has placed the victims of political justice and imprisonment in Torgau at the center of its work. The exhibition documents the history of Torgau's prisons and camps during the Nazi era, the Soviet occupation, and the GDR. Since 1999, the Torgau Memorial Site has been part of the Saxon Memorials Foundation. Special exhibitions and events, as well as guided tours and educational offerings, are free for groups and school classes upon prior registration.
