The name Torgau became known worldwide when American and Soviet soldiers met on the Elbe on April 25, 1945, even before the official armistice. The impressive monument to this historic encounter was designed by the Kiev architect Miletzky and erected in the fall of 1945. A highly symbolic place that commemorates the end of the Second World War and embodies the hope for peace.
