Elbe Day – The Festival for Historical Encounters 1945

To mark the 80th anniversary of the historic meeting at the end of the war, the town of Torgau, together with the Torgau Documentation and Information Centre (DIZ) of the Saxon Memorials Foundation, published an online publication about Elbe Day. In short articles, companions and project participants shed light not only on the history, but also on the intergenerational culture of remembrance up to the present day. In addition, a brochure on the topic was published in 2020.

Elbe Day 2026

This year, too, we will be commemorating the historic meeting on the banks of the Elbe. On 25 April 2026, alongside a formal commemorative ceremony, there will once again be a varied programme of events inviting visitors of all ages to experience and celebrate history and the bonds between people.
